A home New Years Eve party is a great way to gather all your family and friends together to celebrate the New Year!

There are both advantages and disadvantages to planning a New Years Eve party in your home. The advantages are that you have a greater amount of freedom in terms of food and beverage choices, decoration options and even the type of entertainment you are able to offer. 

Having the party in your home can mean damage to your possessions if you aren't careful who you invite or you are inviting neighbors or persons from your office who you know little about in a party situation.  Your property or possessions may be damaged or if your party group is especially messy, you'll have much work cleaning up after the party. 

Of course if you host a New Years Eve party in a restaurant or catering hall, you won't be responsible for preparing and serving the food.  And even better, you won't have to worry about cleanup! You will have very few obligations during the party, leaving you more time to have fun. 

But is this what you really want for your New Years eve party?

Catering your party will limit the time you have for your party.  You will also face restaurant restrictions placed on the entertainment you choose and their will probably be limitations on the food and beverages you can offer your guests. Giving these advantages and disadvantages as well as the costs associated with hosting a New Years Eve party in a restaurant or catering hall, many people opt to have a home New Years Eve party.

How To Keep The Disadvantages Down For Your Home Party

When planning a home New Years Eve party, consider your guest list first.  

How will this be helpful?  Here are a few reasons why:

• Limiting the the number of guests you invite according to the size of your home and the rooms in your home will give you more control over what is going on in your home.  You won't have people overflowing, thus causing more damage or getting out-of-control.
  

• If you're concerned about certain persons causing problems that you might invite, then you should be discriminating when you make your guest list and invite only those persons who you believe or know will be respectful to your other guests and your home.
  

• If you're on a budget or have little time to prepare for a party, you can keep your guest list small and confine your party to only one or two rooms.  This will keep your expenses down and give you less mess to clean up the next day.
  

• Even if you use your entire house for the party, you should still consider how many people will fit comfortably for activities such as eating, dancing and socializing.  It is still wise to control the amount of people attending your party.

Other Party Issues To Consider:

• Another factor to consider when planning a home New Years Eve party is how you plan to entertain your guests. Hiring a band or DJ or playing your own music is one of the most popular entertainment options for this type of party.
  

• Also, if you plan to have a band or a DJ you should consider providing a dance floor for your guests. The dance floor does not have to be big but it should be large enough for at least some of your guests to dance and have a good time.  These can be rented at your local party store.  They fold out to the size you have rented.
  

• Another entertainment option is showing a series of movies. The movies can follow a particular theme or they can just be fun movies you think the majority of your guests will enjoy. If you are planning to entertain your guests in this manner you should consider renting a movie projector if you do not already have one to make the movie viewing experience more pleasurable. You should also consider seating options and should ensure you have enough seating for each guest with an unrestricted view of the screen.
  

• When planning a home New Years Eve party be ready to deal with potential problems such as spilled food and drinks. If you have new and expensive carpeting or flooring, you might be very concerned about this issue. One option is to take preventative measures by covering flooring which would be permanently damaged by spilled drinks or food. This will not be very attractive, but it will keep your guests eating and drinking in the areas of the home where spills will not be extremely damaging.  
  
  As the host of the party, you should be prepared to deal with spills. Your plan could include cleaning all spills thoroughly as they occur in an attempt to minimize the risk or permanent stains or to do only a quick cleanup and deal with stains after the party.  In any case, have the best cleaning products on hand and ready.
